La Grande Muraglia 2023 arose from the desire to create a majestic seat with the strength of great architectural works that defy time.
The idea took shape from the pencil of Mario Bellini in 1981 from the partnership between Mario Bellini and Piero Ambrogio Busnelli.
Today, in NEUTRA’s atelier, Emanuele Chicco Busnelli brings La Grande Muraglia 2023 project to full fruition under the skilful hands that have interpreted its domestic architecture flair.
The collection consists of a two- or three-seat sofa, a console and an armchair, made of a classic Roman travertine frame (available in other marble options).
The structure houses the enveloping upholstery of the seats, armrests and backrests. The uprights and frame are identified with the pillars and architrave of an imaginary monumental building, in dialectical contrast with the seat’s soft, enveloping elements that embrace the body.
The strongly architectural reference of the seats does not compromise comfort and flexibility. Bellini reinterprets La Grande Muraglia’s sculptural forms, designing modern ways of experiencing seating for reading, resting, or meditating.
The La Grande Muraglia 2023 seats are sculptural furnishings to hand down to generations and according to Bellini “impose themselves with prestige, not authority.”
